For this Tuesday In House Training, Deputy Chief Ballek scheduled an Operator Training as a refresher for our current Driver/Operators as well as an introduction for those who wish to become drivers. Deputy Chief Ballek and Past Chief Metheny went over the pump and ladder operations for Telesquirt 51-7, Chief Engineer Szelestei went over the operations for Rescue 51-6, and Driver/Operator Jim Nickerson took Engine 51-5 to the pond and went over draft operations. Engine, Truck, and Rescue Operations

Deputy Chief Ballek conducted three weeks of In House Training committed solely to Company Operations. Over the 3 weeks members refreshed or learned the skills necessary for Engine Company operations at the scene of an MVC, Truck Company operations, and Rescue Company Operations. Members went through and operated all equipment on the trucks while learning situations needed and applications of each tool.

Tuesday night, Deputy Chief Ballek scheduled an MCI Training with a small drill. Dep Chief Ballek began the night speaking briefly of different MCI situations, operations, and how they would apply to our fire company. Next Capt. Norris spoke of the duties and responsibilities of the dispatch center as well as what responses are granted for each of the three levels of MCIs. Hartly Invades Kent Center

For this weeks in house training, Dep. Chief Ballek set up a tour with the Kent County Operations Center (Kent Center) to provide members with a first hand look into dispatch operations. VES and Breech Training

While members are anxiously awaiting the live fire training to be held this month, Dep Chief Ballek used the opportunity and available resources to conduct a very important but seldom practiced exercise with the veteran members. While the newer members were getting acquainted with the nomenclature and functions of the SCBA system, the rest of the company in attendance learned different maneuvers and some complications associated with breeching a wall.

For Tuesday night's training, Deputy Chief Ballek had representatives from the Delaware Forestry Service (DFS)speak with members about wildland fires. Henry Poole and Jim Dowd from DFS presented a slide show with information that is some what of an introduction to the material they present for the Delaware State Fire School Wildland Firefighting courses. Emergency Responder Refresher

Dep. Chief Ballek set up a course through the Delaware State Fire School to renew members Emergency Responder and CPR cards on Saturday and Sunday. Firefighters who attended the course 2 years earlier as well as some new members (for their CPR and AED), and a few EMT's were in attendance under the guidance of Instructor Jo Ann DiDonato. Renewable Energy

As many throughout the world are "going green" one way they are finding to reduce pollution is through Renewable Energy Sources. Delaware State Fire School instructor Tate Coulburn and Flexera representative Michael Manlove came out to Station 51 to present a slide show on Renewable Energy with a main focus on the use of solar panels for electricity, hot water, and heat. Spring Training to Begin

Spring Training is set to begin next week. Dep. Chief Ballek has planned a few new specialty classes, some back to the basic classes, as well as our traditional structural and vehicle rescue. New Members get the Intro to Emergency Services

Over the past few months we have had some new additions to our membership for both Fire and EMS. What a better way to welcome our new recruits other than putting them to work. During the normally training-less summer months, we are giving the new comers a 4 part Intro to Emergency Services class taught by DSFS instructor Doug Huffstutler to help them understand the basic principles and operations of the fire service.
